RIP Harry Kalas

The voice of baseball in Philadelphia, Harry Kalas, passed away yesterday. If you grew up here and even really didn't follow the Phillies, his voice was instantly recognizable. It was the sound of Summer and early fall, coming from the TV in the other room, out of car windows, shops and bars. He will be surely missed.

  1. Aw, poor Harry!

I'm English and therefore have only a very tenuous grasp on the whole baseball thing (although I remember I enjoyed a film called "Major League" when I watched it) and frankly, I don't know Harry from Adam ... but I thought I'd offer my sympathy and condolences anyway :)

Ps: Try not to swoon :P

  2. It's a bit like cricket in a way, with spitting.
I recommend "Field of Dreams" w/Kevin Costner.

  5. I'm not a Phillies fan and didn't grow up in the area, but Harry's voice was awesome. I daresay, his was the ultimate baseball announcer voice.
